First Business Visits

After a very long day (or night?) we were up this morning for our first business visits to Scottish Microelectronics and the Scottish Parliament. The presenters were very complimentary of our students and talked about how bright and pleasant they were. (We know it, but its nice to hear confirmation from others sometimes too!) I think everyone learned a lot and also realized that we don't know too much about the tech world and the research and development that goes on in the background.  The Scottish Parliament building was an amazing architectural wonder that was a treat to see.  After that we had some free time to see the sights and walk up the "royal mile" to Edinburgh Castle with an awesome view of the city.  The students took lots of photos and I hope to get access to them through the wonders of technology if I can figure out how to do it.  In the meantime, here are a few you might enjoy seeing.  Tomorrow we travel to Preston and the Preston temple complex.

They all made it safely here with only a few travel glitches!  We toured the Royal Yacht Britannia docked nearby our hotel as a group. It was interesting and it kept everyone moving for an hour or two.
The jet lag was kicking in big time and I think after getting a bite to eat everyone has gone to sleep now! We look forward to making some business visits tomorrow and then seeing some sights.  It continues to be rainy and windy so we all feel at home I guess. First stop: Edinburgh, Scotland

Professor Slade and I are here in Edinburgh and we are excited for the students to join us on Thursday.  We have recovered from jet lag and have been walking around town trying to get our bearings before the students arrive. It has been cool and occasionally rainy, so hopefully they will come prepared with raincoats and/or umbrellas! If bagpipes and kilts are your thing, this is the place for you!  Travel tips for anyone interested: sleep on the plane if you can, it is a short night, and a long day once here.  The time difference here is 7 hours ahead of Utah.
